Happy Holidays from Two at the Most

Here in Western Washington, we’re getting a new layer of crisp white snow, making for a rare white Christmas.

I hope you’re having a wonderful holiday season, however you celebrate it!

And if you are looking for a festive drink, I highly recommend Jeffrey Morgenthaler’s egg nog recipe. It takes less than 10 minutes to make (although the hour rest to let the flavors blend is highly recommended), no egg seperating required, and has earned rave reviews from my family this holiday. Cheers!

Leblon Cachaça and the Caipirinha

Thursday Drink Night (TDN) at the Mixoloseum is becoming a favorite part of my week. I’m especially looking forward to the upcoming TDN (November 20), when the event is being sponsored by Leblon Cachaça. We will be joined by Leblon representatives, whom we can bombard with questions about their product, and Brazil’s unique … Continue Reading

Black River Sidecar and Thursday Drink Night

This past Thursday Drink Night at the Mixoloseum was a resounding success.

And not just because my submission, the Black River Sidecar, was named best off-the-cuff drink of the night.

3/4 oz lemon juice
1/4 oz pimento dram (St. Elizabeth’s Allspice Dram)
1 tsp. agave nectar

shake over ice, strain into cocktail glass, garnish with whole allspice berry tied in lemon twist

The St. Elizabeth’s is very potent; people who … Continue Reading

Black Tot Day

Attention! It was on this day in 1970 that the British Royal Navy discontinued the centuries old tradition of providing a daily rum ration, or “tot,” to its sailors.

In rememberance of Black Tot Day, let us all raise a glass of grog:

Grog

2 ounces water
1 ounce Jamaican rum (Pusser’s)
1/2 ounce lime juice
1 tablespoon raw sugar

shake over ice, strain into a rocks glass full of ice.

If this was once part of my compensation and it was taken away, I’d be pretty darned upset!

[Redmond] Wine Tastings

Turns out Malt & Vine, a nice, if small, beer and wine shop here in Redmond, has weekly tastings. Beers on Friday night, wines on Saturday afternoon. They’re a little low on whites right now, but plan to be putting in more coolers and bringing more in as the weather warms. Seem like good folk.
